AUSTIN, Texas — HanAra Software and its South Korean-based parent company BNF Technology partner with Korea-South East Power (KOEN) to help the industry increase plant operation efficiency and achieve carbon neutrality. Through a pilot project starting in March 2021 at the Yeongheung Power Project, the 800-MW thermal power plant in South Korea monitors power plant efficiency through an HanPrism EPOMS (Efficiency-Based Plant Operation Monitoring System). KOEN plans to expand the usage of the monitoring solution at other units soon.

By collecting and analyzing real-time efficiency variables and transforming the data with an operational evaluation index algorithm, KOEN has a clear view of the current operating state impacting the overall energy efficiency. With this information, plant operations have the necessary information to make real-time and critical judgments based on the current operational situation.

The program’s pilot and future expansion are part of KOEN’s efficiency goals. KOEN set a goal of improving power plant efficiency by 0.2% by 2025 and 0.5% by 2030. KOEN will enhance its sustainability efforts and reduce operational costs by improving day-to-day operational decisions. With this platform at a single unit, KOEN expects to:

  • Reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by 74,700 tons
  • Reduce carbon emission costs by over 0.8 M USD (800 million won)*
  • Reduce fuel costs by 6.6 M USD (6.6 billion won)*

Hojoon Seo, president of HanAra Software and BNF Technology, said, “As a software provider, we strive to provide value to our customers in our solutions and services. Projects like KOEN’s efficiency monitoring represent our mission of improving the world’s infrastructure. We look forward to our continued partnership with KOEN and the expansion to additional sites.”
